Server’s Sounds: Top Ten Countdown – 8/18/10

After all the experimental countdown tries, we’re finally back with just the plain old classic Top Ten Countdown. In case you forgot it’s just the top ten songs I’m into right now, so let us begin…

10. Booty Bounce by Dev

This one is all about the video which is innovative for something so simple, good old seizure inducing innovation. Dev reminds me of Uffie’s sound, but not as good. Her verses are a lot better than the hook and utilizes her signature line from Like a G6, “Poppin’ bottles in the ice, like a blizzard, when we drink we do it right, getting slizzard…fly like a g6″

9. Mine by Taylor Swift

Oh look, Taylor Swift is back. It’s nothing different from her other stuff, just more of about her love life and that jazz. It does sound more country than before. Anyways, there’s a few months to go before Speak Now is released so it’s gonna be a long wait.

8. White Lies by Stacy Clark

Stacy Clark has to be the surprise new pick for the week. It’s available for free on iTunes right now, so you better go it. But she has a feel similar to Sara Bareilles, with an upbeat piano beat to pleasant vocal ability. I can totally see this one getting airtime on VH1 if there is ever a music video released.

7. Ready to Start by Arcade Fire

This is the lead single off of Arcade Fire’s new album, The Suburbs. Like most of their songs it is a strong mix of various instruments that blend very well. They really play their instruments passionately and just gives the song a strong feel. Ready to Start has a strong jamming build up, leading to an exploding climax, and rides the song out to the end.

6. My Best Theory by Jimmy Eat World

Yes, Jimmy Eat World is still around making music. Nothing really new however, the single has virtually the same sound as their stuff from the last album released Chase This Light, which in my opinion isn’t such a bad thing.

5. Love the Way You Lie by Eminem ft. Rihanna

The video has randomly stirred up controversy over it being similar to the Rihanna/Chris Brown situation, but who the f’ really cares anyways. Love the Way You Lie being the strongest song on Eminem’s new album finally gets a video and thus gets second wind on this countdown. Who else gets second wind? Megan Fox who is in this video alongside Dominic Monaghan tries to show she is a passionate actress. In my opinion video is pretty random and basically follows one allusion from beginning to end.

4. I Don’t Wanna Dance by Hey Monday

One of the returning songs from the past countdowns, this one returns to the top 5. Their latest EP was released the other day, Beneath It All, though this puzzles me since Hey Monday has already released a debut CD, why not just work on another one? The EP anyways is pretty weak besides this one and really isn’t worth the pickup.

3. Tell Me I’m a Wreck – Every Avenue

Pop punk band Every Avenue tries to get more serious with there latest single. This one gets comparisons with Daughtry and Shinedown from me. Every Avenue’s lead singer really holds this one together. The video shows various real relationships giving the song more meaning than it should. Anyways I’m being really generous this week giving it #3.

2. E.T. by Katy Perry

Watch this video get removed by tomorrow, but in the mean time enjoy the one song off of Teenage Dream that I actually enjoy. I like how its more melodic than her other songs and more electronic than poppy. It also strangely reminds me of t.A.T.u. The lyrics aren’t really much just a simple metaphor between aliens and love, but Perry shows a lot more range with her singing ability in the verses. 1st single was too poppy, 2nd single had no hook, 3rd single was a weak ballad, but the 4th single gets an OK from me.

1. Impossible by Anberlin

If I weren’t doing those weird countdowns for the past few weeks, Anberline would’ve taken the #1 spot sooner. Their new album is just on the horizon of album releases and I’m hoping it is as good as this single. Since I already did a quick review for this one before, take a listen for yourself and see if you like it as well.
