Server’s Sounds: Top Ten Countdown Summer Songs ’10

The last Top Ten Countdown of the summer will be totally about the summer. Basing it off of radio play and random general popularity, I’ll throw together a list of the top ten songs of this summer. Though most of them I personally don’t like, but we’ll get back to my likes the next week. Anyways these are the top ten songs people were listening to this summer…

10. In My Head by Jason Derülo

So to summarize all my comments about Derülo this summer. This one was one of the singles that I actually enjoyed. But I know that Jason can pull a 180 and pump out something dreadfully terrible (Ridin’ Solo cough cough). At this point he will either be the next Ne-Yo or an one album wonder. BTW stalking women outside of convenience stores is the fastest way to get arrested Jason. If you don’t know by now Jason Derülo’s record label is beluga heights, now that everybody knows, stop putting it in front of all your songs!

9. Alejandro by Lady Gaga

I swear you better be paid a lot to be backup dancer in a Lady Gaga video. Those guys are the ones who are doing most of the freaky stuff. I never really liked Alejandro much, never really got into it. For the most part its just Gaga repeating the name over and over again.

8. Not Afraid by Eminem

The song that debuted one of Em’s better albums Recovery was Not Afraid. I like it mostly for the simplicity behind it, just a simple beat and Eminem’s rhymes that are actually about something. The ability to flow from the hooks to the verses are really smooth. Really, this is one of the few things that came out of the hip hop industry that I give props to.

7. Billionaire by Travie McCoy (feat. Bruno Mars)

Really, I’m not sure why Travie McCoy went solo since his music is basically the same stuff he did with Gym Class Heroes, though that stuff wasn’t too bad either. The brightest part of this song was Bruno Mars singing the hooks, introducing us to one of the better voices in the hip hop industry. I officially declaring this one the feel good song of this summer, how could you disagree?

6. Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner

OK this one graced the top ten charts on and off for week on end. Mike Posner is another name that is bringing electropop mainstream. Combine that with his unique raspy voice (that amazingly works) and you got yourself a hit. The video is actually pretty neat with the changing settings depending on glasses he wears. This definite was one of the songs I enjoyed this summer.

5. OMG by Usher (feat. will.i.am)

I HATE THIS SOOOOO MUCH. I did enough posts this summer and my rants on “club music” aka music that have no lyrical meaning at all and just have a decent enough beat that people can dance to. It is annoyingly autotuned the hell out of and the backing arena chanting  just annoys me. And man the fuck up and just say Oh My God, what is this Oh My Gosh crap.

4. Love the Way You Lie by Eminem (feat. Rihanna)

It was a good summer for Eminem, with two hit songs in one season. When the new album dropped, me and my cousin made the prediction that this one would be the next hit single and we were right on the ball. Like Not Afraid, it has strong rhymes from Em with deep meaning, but to push this one even above that song is the hooks sung by the talented Rihanna (though I didn’t really like Rated R). They also went all out with the music video by getting Hollywood stars Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan.

3. Dynamite by Taio Cruz

Who did I hate on even more than Usher this summer…Taio Cruz. Never liked a single song the guy has made. I actually did a pretty in detailed rant on this song (the last countdown I believe). And I swear, I will punch out the next dumbass who sticks his hands in the air and says a-yo. Really, when did you ever do that before this song came out.

2. Airplanes by B.o.B (feat. Hayley Williams)

B.o.B had one of the best album debuts this year and Airplanes has to be my favorite songs to come off of it. Like Love the Way you Lie, its a good combination of rhymes and a strong hook by a talented singer. B.o.B has to be the better rappers today, though some of his songs are pretty much about nothing, others are much more meaningful. The video is also made pretty well with projection effects that would be copied later by other artists.

1. California Gurls by Katy Perry

What did you think would be the song of the summer? You had to be pretty out of reach to not have heard California Gurls playing at someplace. It’s probably the most poppy song that Katy Perry has made and I’ll have to admit I didn’t really like Teenage Dream as much as One of the Boys. But that didn’t really stop Katy, it was her summer and she ran with it. And as soon as this song started losing heat, she released this song…

But to summarize, Katy Perry defined this summer with songs about sexual clothing and made our world all bubble gum pink. Also whipped cream shooter boobs, I will never ever let that go.

Server’s Top Ten Countdown – 12/15/09

Another new music tuesday, another Top Ten Countdown. I am a man of little words this week, but the countdown must continue.

10. In My Head – Jason Derülo (NEW)

Jason is actually proving himself to be more than a one hit wonder from his earlier song Whatcha Say. In My Head is the third single off his debut album that has still yet to be released. He seems to be the next Ne-Yo, but has he released all his good songs already, leaving nothing worth listening to on his album, guess we’ll have to find out.

9. Stoned – Puddle of Mudd (NEW)

Oh this totally reminds me of their old stuff. Just good old hard rock. And it’s another one of Puddle of Mudd’s F U songs directed towards someone. Man someone must really pissed off their songwriter. And the puking at the end of the song is a very interesting touch to the song.

8. Lost in Stereo – All Time Low (NEW)

Yeah it really seems that I add a new All Time Low song to the countdown every week. Well it just seems everything they’ve been making recently have been amazing. Lost in Stereo is one of the tracks that I totally forgot about on their last album Nothing Personal.

7. This Is War – 30 Seconds to Mars (NEW)

Jared Leto put his acting career on hold for a bit to pump out another album from his band 30 Seconds to Mars. And he kinda made up for it, by making really really song tracks. This Is War is the second single and the title track of their new album. It reminds me of a more exciting version of their song A Beautiful Lie, it has build ups leading to cresendos.

6. Half of My Heart – John Mayer feat. Taylor Swift (RETURN)

John Mayer’s collab with Taylor Swift is back on the charts (well mine anyway). Yep not really much to say about this one, until a music video is made.

5. WTF? – OK Go (↓)

Man I am running out of things to say for repeat songs that return to the countdown.

4. Telephone – Lady GaGa feat. Beyoncé (↓)

Uhmm…man I have the case of the tuesdays today, all everything I have to say about this song (check last week’s countdown?)

3. Hard - Rihanna feat. Young Jeezy (↓)

Plug of my post from yesterday on Rihanna is all I have to say.

2. Last Christmas – Glee (↓)

This doesn’t have much to do with the song, but last week’s half season finale of Glee was absolutely amazing. Apparently the producers didn’t expect Fox to order a full season, so they planned a big finale by half season and it was totally worth it. Now I have to wait until Spring before I watch it again, total sadness. Oh and check iTunes and truely realize just how many of your favorite artists do Christmas covers. Here are few more…

1. She Takes Me High – We The Kings (NEW)

We The Kings has to be one of my favorite bands I discovered two years ago on mtvU and now they have returned with a just as good sophmore album. She Takes Me High is their second single off of the album and the first single made it on the countdown about a month ago. Smile Kid is an album everyone should check out.
