Server’s Sounds: Top Ten Countdown – 6/30/10
Besides one particular album that I love, this has been a pretty slow music week. But it never stops me from finding new music. I dug deep this week, to find some hidden gems, but there are some songs that make their way back for another go, 10 to 1 this is the countdown…
10. Islands by The xx
I guess I pick this one as my indie song of the week. It took a really long time for me to get into The xx. The beat and vocals are very on the low side and goes with this melodic jam to ride through the song to the end. I do like the music video purgatory idea they had with the video, if you don’t get what that means, give a video a watch and then you’ll get it.
9. Shake It Out by Manchester Orchestra
This rock song ain’t for the poppy wannabes. It’s really raw and hardcore, without pushing into metal. The best way I can describe it is all of the instruments and vocals sound dirty. The song also seem to split in half with both parts almost being able to be stand alone singles.
8. Deathbed by There For Tomorrow
This is basically emo song of the week from me. Though There for Tomorrow is a pretty decent band. They really only have one type of sound to them, which makes hearing one of their songs like hearing all of them. Also they have this recurring theme of blue laser lights in their videos. Oh well.
7. Crash by Fit for Rivals
Another song that gets me because of guitar riffs. This is the first time that I’ve listened to Fit for Rivals and they seem to be a mix of Hoobastank and Shinedown. Gotta love the headbanging music.
6. You’ve Changed by Sia
I’ve actually heard this song way back in December, but gave it another listen recently with Sia’s album release and found it’s actually pretty good. It’s just another poppy electronica song, but with really good vocals. The music video also gave me a smile, with the paper cutout “Rock Band” game theme that they had going.
5. The Fire by The Roots (feat. John Legend)
This week I’ll post the regular version of The Fire by The Roots to compare with the remix that I posted last week. This single falls a few spots because of all “new” songs I’ve found over the past week.
4. The Ghost Inside by Broken Bells
I have a feeling that The Ghost Inside will tumble out of the Top Ten either next week or the week after. It had a good run though, can’t wait for new Broken Bells whenever that happens again.
3. It’s Working by MGMT
There’s just something about MGMT, that works so well. They’re basically bringing back psychedelic rock and only they can do it. It’s Working works really well with building up the momentum of the song, starting slow and reaching the peak at the end. Oh yeah like all MGMT music videos, it’s random, yet awesome.
2. Love the Way You Lie by Eminem (feat. Rihanna)
Still no music video and still no official single link, so instead I found a live version of it from the Activision E3 event, enjoy.
1. House Party by 3OH!3
We’ll this was the album that I was psyched for and it didn’t disappoint. The only downside is that they release so many digital singles that it seems that I’ve heard most of the album already. So instead of sticking Deja Vu or any of the other singles on here at #1, I chose this one. Nothing much to it and it’s kind of stupid, but you know they’ll be blasting this at the parties one day. That’s the countdown for this week, check in next week to see what’s new and what I’m into.
