FF XXIII Fav Monsters

Since this is really all I’ve been playing for the past few weeks (damn you game draught!). Thought I’d do a post about it. This will be my favorite Final Fantasy XIII renditions of the classic Final Fantasy monsters. I’ll just do a couple of them to not waste your time and there might be a few missing since I still have 2 more chapters to go (in the long grinding part right now).

Adamantoise

What used to be a giant turtle that has a huge amount of HP is now a giant dinosaur thing with mammoth tusks that sort of looks like those giant beasts that the orcs rode in Lord of the Rings. It’s also cool that these things just tower over you in the overworld making them seem fearful to battle.

Adamantoise (classic)

Behemoth King

Behemoths have always been ‘oh shit’ monsters to run into. They still hold that reputation in 13, but they’re more common to run into, so a little less ‘oh shit’. What’s cool about these dudes are they can transform to a bi-pedal form and then gain pants out of nowhere.

Behemoth (classic)

Anima

Anima is one of the fal’cie god thingers in this 13, thus making it huge, mechanical looking, and intricate. If I remember he’s one of the first bosses you face. And they did a really good job with the bosses in terms of how they look.

Anima (FFX Summon)

Bahamut

Another classic summon is Bahamut. What’s cool about summons in Final Fantasy 13 is that they come in 2 forms – a warrior looking one and an animal/vehicle looking one. They keep to the classic Bahamut by making his animal form a dragon of course.

Bahamut (classic)

Odin

Odin another recurring FF character usually appears as a summon and it follows through in 13 as he is the main character Lightning’s summon. He’s usually depicted as a knight riding a horse. This is done as his warrior form in the knight and the animal mode the horse with Lightning riding on the back.

Odin (Classic)

Shiva

We finally end with another classic summon Shiva, who probably has the most unique appearance in 13. She is Snow’s summon and takes the form of 2 sisters, one named Stiria and the other named Nix. Both have the typical blue female look down, but what’s weird is their vehicle mode is a motorcycle made form fusing the two of them together, THAT’S RIGHT TWO BLUE GIRLS JOIN TOGETHER TO MAKE A MOTORCYCLE.

That about wraps up the post, gonna keep going at Final Fantasy until I finish the damn thing. Expecting a The Drop post and a long awaited Crush Girl post sometime this week.

Awesome Game Trailers from GamesCom ’11

OK its always confuses me the difference between GamesCon and GamesCom. Both are German video game conventions and one of them is apart of the big 3 of conventions for gamers (along with E3 and Tokyo Game Show). Apparently GamesCom is the one happening this week and we got a bunch of more news and trailers about this coming blockbuster gaming season coming this fall. Today is dedicated to just the first day of trailers, check back for more news later this week when the event wraps up…

Gamers with Class – Review: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Going to start promoting our friends over at Gamerswithclass.com, definitely the place to visit to get the latest gaming news (better than my sporadic posts every once in awhile).

The latest is a review of one of the newest 3DS titles – Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (LINK)

Late to the Bandwagon – Batman: Arkham Asylum

Introducing another new post type this week, about me being late to awesome things. Starting it off is a video game that was Game of the Year during a slow gaming year, Batman: Arkham Asylum.

So why now?

Probably my number one reason for all of these will be because the price dropped below $30, making it undeniably affordable finally this year (sadness of being a poor gamer). The other reason, well is also obvious, the sequel is coming out in about 2 months. Batman: Arkham City should drop on October 18th and now I’m totally ready for it. From what I see it should overtake its predecessor in just about everything and you get to fight Riddler, Two-Face, and Penguin!

What I Like About it

Well think superheroes and video games you get terrible examples, the worse being Superman 64. On top of this you get the movie release games that are released at the same time as hero movies which are rushed developed pieces of garbage. Besides maybe the MMO City of Heroes or the old Playstation Spider-Man game, Arkham Asylum is the game that redeemed the superhero genre.

The game I draw the most comparison to Arkham Asylum is it plays a lot like Assassin’s Creed, yet still is innovative in its own way. Batman is known for his stealth and there is much emphasis on this with entire levels built around this mechanic. Batman is also known for his array of gadgets and you definitely get a good amount of them in this game, and they are easily switched to in the system similar to the way Legend of Zelda does it, making it easier for us gamers to comprehend. The puzzle solving also makes sense with a definite detective feel that Batman is known for, instead a more dungeon crawling feel. What I’m getting at is they captured the essence of what Batman is all about, you just think yeah that’s exactly how it should be.

Then you got the story, that is retrospect, is a little short (but since it is the first game it works, also it does only take place over the course of a single night). The story is written by Paul Dini (the man behind many of DC Comic’s animated series including Batman: The Animated Series), so he knows what he’s doing. At the story is a perfect grab out of the Batman universe, it would fit right in with continuity (comic fans can see this with its wide use of characters and easter eggs). But on the flipside, many characters got costume re-designs that many fans actually like more than the originals, so they did something right there. Things were really animated out well and you definitely stop to watch the cut-scenes and not skip over them.

So those are few nice things that I want to say about Batman: Arkham Asylum. If you are later to the bandwagon than I am definitely grab yourself a copy and give it a play.

Quickie – Wish I Had a Portal Gun

Just a quick notice, I missed the last few days of posts once again because of family reasons, but getting back on track starting today with posts. The rest of this week will be wonky with post scheduling so Crush Girl of the Week and The Drop might fall on different days, bewarned.

Definitely one of the better videos that came from Dorkly (found a repost on YouTube).
