Wait, I Have a Ping Now? (Quickie – 9/6)

So finally got down to upgrading my iTunes (for like the third time this month) and turns out its the upgrade to the new iTunes 10. And what is the big difference between iTunes 10 and 9? They added a friggin’ social network to 10 called Ping? Did we really need a new social network to join? Nope (already got a Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, FourSquare, Photobooth, Tumblr, deviantArt, Google Buzz, LinkedIn, and a Ning). They also went lame on their graphic design and dropped the signature CD disk associated with the iTunes icon. Going from this, to this…

But back to Ping. There’s not really anything special with it, in fact it’s probably less special than the other social networks.I posted the Lady Gaga sample page that was found via Google search below (checked up on it for the hell of it, she actually updates the thing constantly). Basically you get to upload a picture and select songs that you are into and that’s displayed on your homepage. The rest is basically a huge receipt from the iTunes store (everything that you buy or review shows up on your page. You then can do the twitter thing and “follow” artists or friends and they are added to your homepage’s feed. Pretty basic. But I guess since just about everyone uses iTunes it might take off? But then again, everytime they want to add something new, we’ll have to download another iTunes update, guhhhhh. All in all, Ping might be better than the other music related social networks, but it’s definitely not something I’m gonna be checking often.
