Server’s Sounds: Top Ten Countdown – 6/30/10

Besides one particular album that I love, this has been a pretty slow music week. But it never stops me from finding new music. I dug deep this week, to find some hidden gems, but there are some songs that make their way back for another go, 10 to 1 this is the countdown…

10. Islands by The xx

I guess I pick this one as my indie song of the week. It took a really long time for me to get into The xx. The beat and vocals are very on the low side and goes with this melodic jam to ride through the song to the end. I do like the music video purgatory idea they had with the video, if you don’t get what that means, give a video a watch and then you’ll get it.

9. Shake It Out by Manchester Orchestra

This rock song ain’t for the poppy wannabes. It’s really raw and hardcore, without pushing into metal. The best way I can describe it is all of the instruments and vocals sound dirty. The song also seem to split in half with both parts almost being able to be stand alone singles.

8. Deathbed by There For Tomorrow

This is basically emo song of the week from me. Though There for Tomorrow is a pretty decent band. They really only have one type of sound to them, which makes hearing one of their songs like hearing all of them. Also they have this recurring theme of blue laser lights in their videos. Oh well.

7. Crash by Fit for Rivals

Another song that gets me because of guitar riffs. This is the first time that I’ve listened to Fit for Rivals and they seem to be a mix of Hoobastank and Shinedown. Gotta love the headbanging music.

6. You’ve Changed by Sia

I’ve actually heard this song way back in December, but gave it another listen recently with Sia’s album release and found it’s actually pretty good. It’s just another poppy electronica song, but with really good vocals. The music video also gave me a smile, with the paper cutout “Rock Band” game theme that they had going.

5. The Fire by The Roots (feat. John Legend)

This week I’ll post the regular version of The Fire by The Roots to compare with the remix that I posted last week. This single falls a few spots because of all “new” songs I’ve found over the past week.

4. The Ghost Inside by Broken Bells

I have a feeling that The Ghost Inside will tumble out of the Top Ten either next week or the week after. It had a good run though, can’t wait for new Broken Bells whenever that happens again.

3. It’s Working by MGMT

There’s just something about MGMT, that works so well. They’re basically bringing back psychedelic rock and only they can do it. It’s Working works really well with building up the momentum of the song, starting slow and reaching the peak at the end. Oh yeah like all MGMT music videos, it’s random, yet awesome.

2. Love the Way You Lie by Eminem (feat. Rihanna)

Still no music video and still no official single link, so instead I found a live version of it from the Activision E3 event, enjoy.

1. House Party by 3OH!3

We’ll this was the album that I was psyched for and it didn’t disappoint. The only downside is that they release so many digital singles that it seems that I’ve heard most of the album already. So instead of sticking Deja Vu or any of the other singles on here at #1, I chose this one. Nothing much to it and it’s kind of stupid, but you know they’ll be blasting this at the parties one day. That’s the countdown for this week, check in next week to see what’s new and what I’m into.

Amazing! Comic Moments – June Week 4

So Amazing! Comic Moments returns from its hiatus this week, still not sure what permanent day of the week I want it on, but I make that decision later. This will be toned down to the best Marvel Comics moment of the week and the best DC Comics moment of the week, then sometimes best Indie Comic moment of the week, and finally the outright Comic Moment of the Week. Wow that’s a mouthful. (Oh yeah by the way THIS ENTIRE ARTICLE IS FULL OF SPOILERS)

Marvel Moment…

The Newest 4 Horsemen of Apocalypse (Avengers #2)

)

I have no idea where Bendis is going with this series, but you know what, I’ll go with it

OMG, They Killed Spidey! (Amazing Spider-Man #635)

He can’t be dead, can he? Anyways, Grim Hunt turning into one of the most interesting Spider-Man storylines in awhile

DC Moment…

So Much For Being a Hero (Justice League – The Rise of Arsenal #4)

This wraps up the Rise of Arsenal minisaga that has Red Arrow becoming an antihero, the entire thing was kind of whiny, but it does have a good setup leading into the new Titans series and that should be sweet.

So That’s Who was Behind the Alpha Lanterns! (Green Lantern Corp #49)

It’s kind of obvious if you think about it. But it baffles me on how Cyborg Superman isn’t dead yet.

Must Buy of the Week

Brightest Day – Green Arrow #1

Ok, I’m really not into Green Arrow at all before their recent turnaround with the character. He was just Robin Hood, but instead a superhero, nothing really cool about that. But this spirals out of Justice League – A Cry for Justice, in which they f’ed up everything in Arrow’s world, leaving him a broken character, and kind of starting anew.

Comic Moment of the Week…

Mother F’in Pirate Batman Kicks Ass (Batman – The Return of Bruce Wayne #3)

I know this entire saga is going to end with some really bizarre explanation, it’s written by Grant Morrison after all. But let’s take a moment and enjoy what would happen if Bruce Wayne lived in pirate times, I just don’t question it anymore.

Link Me! – 6/28/10

Yup coming up with yet another type of post, actually I’ve done this one before, but it never had an official title. Link Me! is basically filtering the already filtered top 24 hours of Digg and sometimes Reddit for the best articles on the web. I actually don’t like how wordpress.org does links, but I’ll just make due.

  • The First “HD” Gaming Console (Link)
  • Chewy’s First Day at School (Link)
  • Pop Icons in a different light (Link)

Versus: Olivia Munn Vs. Jessica Chobot

Another new post type that I came up with a few days ago and implementing today is Versus. It’s basically a 5 point comparison post between whatever two things I want to compare. This week will be Olivia Munn versus Jessica Chobot.

There isn’t really a real battle between the two at all, but this discussion started up around E3 time when Olivia Munn has been M.I.A. from Attack of the Show! for awhile now. They brought back in Jessica Chobot to cohost along side Kevin Pereira for multiple episodes during Munn’s absence. Because of Chobot’s charm and gamer knowledge, AOTS fans started questioning if there should be a new host of AOTS. But we’ll settle this once and for all, Munn Vs. Chobot, GO!

1. Who’s Sexier?

Ok want to know why the guest host opposite Kevin Pereira is always female? Cause the show needs eye candy. So we start things off with the most obvious question, which of the two is hotter? (To make this easier we’ll see who looks better in a bikini.

Evidence –

Winner – Olivia

This one was hard, they both look really really hot. But we’ll go off of the “expert’s” opinion of Olivia’s 2010 Maxim Hot 100 ranking of #8. But the sheer hotness between the two of them is overwhelming, so let’s move on to a different topic

2. Who’s Funnier?

Besides being hot, the cohost of AOTS needs to be entertaining and for the most part funny. I tried my best to find clips of one funny moment from each of them. Olivia is more of an awkward funny, ending up being the butt of all of Kevin’s jokes and able to make fun of herself. Jessica does the opposite to Kevin and one up’s him at everything.

Evidence –

Winner – Jessica

Both of them are funny in their own way, but I give it to Jessica, because I have this strange suspicion that all of Olivia’s comedy genius comes from the AOTS writers.

3. Who’s Better at Cosplay?

Why does this even matter, I’m not sure, but it ends up happening enough times on AOTS to matter so…

Evidence-

Winner – Olivia

Kudos to the both of them for able to pull of their crazy tribute costumes. But Olivia takes the cake for quantity, she’s been just about everything: Sailor Moon, Chun Li, Heavenly Sword chick, Emma Frost, Lara Croft, and even Sarah Palin. It’s now even a tradition at G4 at ComicCon that Olivia will be dressed as something.

4. Who’s More of a “Gamer”?

There’s a reason why they haven’t made Sara Jean Underwood a regular member of the Attack of the Show! cast yet, it’s cause she doesn’t really know her games. It’s the G4 network for sake, games are the only thing that separate it from Spike TV!

Evidence –

Well it’s is rare in which they ever let Olivia Munn host the Game Break segment. She seems to be more of  a casual gamer more than anything (Wii is totally her thing). When she took the job she admitted to the lack of gaming and tech knowledge, but she’s been getting better at it. On the other hand Chobot is definitely a gamer, she’s works for IGN and provides vivid discussion in techno babble.

Winner – Jessica

She knows, plays, and is apart of video game culture. She totally takes this one, and below is her and Adam Sessler’s wrapup of E3.

Catch Up on… Spricket24

I’m going to start a new type of post that highlights certain YouTubers and showcases the best from them for the past few months. For the people who I talk to on a regular basis, they know I send them links to these YouTubers all the time. So this is kind of a catch up on anything that I haven’t sent them. Without further ado, catch up on…spricket24

Quick Bio: Her real name is Karen Alloy and she’s a young single mother from Minnesota. Her videos are vlog-like and revolve around a central topic, usually something that happens to all of us in everyday life or current event topic. What makes them entertaining is her quirky nature and natural sense of humor, also she’s pretty hot. That’s the most general I can describe them, but watch a few of the videos below and judge them for yourself.
